Paul Macar - Belgian geomorphologist, professor at the University of Liège, founder of the Belgian geomorphology school, a scholar known on a global scale, the creator of more than 180 publications. He initiated the analysis of slope development in various climatic conditions. He received the title of doctor honoris causa of the University of Lodz.

In the years 1958-1976 he was the secretary of the Commission for Research on Contemporary Geomorphological Processes and belonged to several committees of the International Geographical Union.
