Mando Mawrojenus (Greek: Μαντώ Μαυρογένους, born 1796 in Trieste, died in 1840 on Paros) - Greek heroine of the War of Independence.
She was the daughter of a wealthy merchant from Cyclades, she was born in Trieste, where her father worked as a clerk. She received a thorough education, she learned French, Italian and Turkish. After her death, in 1818, she left for Tinos, where her relatives lived. After the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, she came to Mykonos to support the insurgents. For this purpose, she allocated family assets. She financed, among others ship equipment, as well as military training for the local population. She also took part in military operations.
In 1823, she published a Letter to Paris women, asking them for support for Greece. After the war, she received an honorary general degree. During the war, she met the prince Dimitrios Ipsilantis, with whom she got involved. The potential marriage of two popular representatives of influential families aroused the fears of Ipsilantis' political opponents, including the premiere of Joanis Koletis. Intrigues and rumors caused that marriage did not take place, Dimitrios Ipsilantis died in 1832, and Mando Mawrojenus was deported to Paros, where she died in poverty in July 1840.
