Karl Totzauer


Karl Totzauer (born 15 June 1909,?) is a Nazi, a member of the Neuengamme concentration camp and an SS-Untersturmführer.

Born in Udritsch, in the Czech Sudetenland, he was a merchant. Member of the NSDAP since November 1, 1939 with party number 6 732 186. On April 24, 1940, he was put into active service in the SS, where he was assigned a registration number of 383 925 and was assigned to the 1st SS Cavalry Regiment (SS-Kavallerie-Regiment). Between May 16, 1940 and June 1, 1940, he served in the 11th SS-Totenkopf (11th SS-Totenkopfstandarte) Regiment in Radom, and then retired to the 5th SS-Totenkopf Regiment in Oranienburg. The unit was transferred in 1940 to the German concentration camp Neuengamme, where he initially served as guard, and then became an officer of the I-commandeering department. Between March 1944 and May 1945 he was an adjutant of the commanding officer of the Neuengamme concentration camp and an SS officer.

During the process of the Neuengamme crew, Totzauer was sentenced on May 3, 1946 to the British Military Court in Hamburg for 20 years in prison for war crimes. He was released from prison in 1954.
