Jingorō Hidari

Jingorō Hidari (Japanese: 左 甚 五郎, Hidari Jingorō, born 1594, died 1651) - Japanese sculptor, founder of the existing family of artists until today.
He created a sogun outside as well as commissioned by aristocrats and great monasteries. He made sculptures in wood. He was left-handed, as evidenced by his name Hidari. Initially, he was active in Kyoto, decorating, among others, temples Nishi Hongan-ji and Chion-in, later he moved to the court of the soguns of the Tokugawa family in Edo. His most important work are decorations in the mausoleum Nikkō Tōshō-gū, where he made his most famous sculptures: Śpiący kot and Trzy małpy.
