Remanni-Adad

King Ashurbanipal hunts in a lion's chariot; one of the reliefs of the North Palace in Nineveh; currently in the collection of the British Museum. Remahni-Adad (adj. Rēmanni-Adad, "Adad to have mercy on me!") - a dignitary at the court of the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal (668-627), who belongs to his most trusted people. He carried the official title of the "main charioteer of Ashurbanipal, the king of Assyria" (mu-kil PA dan-nu ša Aš + šur-D..A MAN Aŝ + ŝur). He was a very influential and wealthy person with numerous properties and homes in northwestern Mesopotamia (mainly in Harran and its surroundings). Dozens of documents belonging to his archive, dating back to the years 671-660 BC, were discovered at the time of excavations in Nineveh. We learn from them that he was doing a lot of business: buying up land, buying property and houses, buying slaves and giving large loans at a percentage. Bibliography
