Psychiatry of children and adolescents

Psychiatry of children and adolescents - a separate medical specialization dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness (see ICD-10) in children and adolescents. In Europe, it grew out of neurology and neuroscience, initially characterized by biological thinking. In the United States, it dates back to the 1950s and sees the work of lawyers, educators, psychologists, who in difficult times of socio-political change have begun to notice the particular problems of children and adolescents. In 2012, Poland had 990 psychiatric beds for children and adolescents, 615 in psychiatric hospitals and 375 in psychiatric hospitals in general hospitals, with relatively weak development of environmental services, most effective in child and youth care. In 2012, there were 175 Mental Health Clinics for children and adolescents and only about 30 daily departments.
