Michal Paleolog (died 1345) - leader of the Zelotes in Thessalonica since 1342. Curriculum vitae

The founders formed an independent republic in 1342. In their political program they demanded the confiscation of large Soviet and ecclesiastical estates and the unification of tax policy. In 1343 they resisted the siege of the city by the troops of Jan VI Kantakuzena. They got help from Stefan Duszan. They did not accept the city board by Jan Apokaukos. Michal Paleolog was removed from power in the summer of 1345 by Jan Apokaukos and was ordered to be murdered from his order. Bibliography
