Maefort
Maefort (Magyar Aeroforgalmi Rt. - Hungarian Air Transport) - the first Hungarian airline to carry postal and passenger services established in 1920. History
The line began air operations in May 1920, carrying mail traffic between Budapest and Szombathely, Miskolc and Segeden. The company had eight Austrian Phobic CI aircraft acquired from the Austrian demobilization. In 1921 Maefort aircraft also carried the first passengers. Apart from the transport activity, the company also provided trainings for flying personnel. In the same year the lines ceased to operate. The provisions of the Trianon Treaty prevented Hungary from having its own air carriers and aircraft. Thus, the Entente Military Commission acknowledged that the existence of a company violates the treaty provisions. For this reason, Maefort's employees were officially officials on government posts and state ministries. Compagnie franco-roumaine de navigation aérienne (CFRNA) was the only airline in France to operate flights from Paris to Bucharest, Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Belgrade. Thus, she was interested in getting rid of potential Hungarian competition. During its short existence, Maefort carried 43 passengers, 2045 kg of mail and cargo at a total distance of 34,720 km.
