Leonid Pyłajew


Леонид Александрович Пылаев (Павловский) (born 30 May 1916 in Dmitrov, died 25/26 March 1992 in Germany) is a Russian emigre poet, singer, actor and publicist, anti-communist activist, military-propagandist of the Russian Liberation Army during the Second World War.

He was born under the name Pawlowski. He came from a peasant family. In his youth he began to write poems and comedy sketches. During the Stalinist repression in the 1930s, he was imprisoned in the Soviet Union in Worcester. After the German invasion of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, he volunteered for the Red Army. In the autumn of 1941 he was captured by the Germans in the vicinity of Możajsk. He was imprisoned in the POW camp, but after some time he was released, declaring his entry into the Russian Liberation Army (ROA). Probably served in the ROA propaganda school in Dabendorf near Berlin. He was touring German POW camps for the Reds, singing and playing accordion. He also wrote articles for collaborative writings. At the end of the war he avoided repatriation to the USSR. He lived in western Germany under the name Pylajew. He performed with artistic performances in various civilian refugee camps. He worked with the National Labor Union (NTS) and other emigre organizations. He began to write articles and articles for the Russian immigration press. He used the nickname Shamrow. In addition, he was the author of poems. From the end of the 1940s he wrote satirical "Ivan". Since 1953 he has worked for Radio Free Europe. He performed radio broadcasts under the pseudonyms "Ivan Oktiabriow" and "Andrei Patraszyn". He appeared in several West German films. He was the author of the songs.
