Wincent Wójtowicz


Wincenty Wójtowicz (born August 18, 1896 in Dąbrowica, December 6, 1918) - participant in the struggle for independence of Poland, legionnaire.

He was the son of a farmer and handicraftman of John and Catherine of Wójcik. From 1909 he was educated at the Tarnobrzeg Real School and belonged to the school and first team of the Scouts. Tadeusz Kosciuszko. Since 1915 he was a soldier of the Polish Legions, fighting in the ranks of the 5th Infantry Regiment. He participated in legionary battles, among others. in the battle of Kostiuchnówka in July 1915. He was seriously wounded in the battle of the Polish Mountain; After being hospitalized for a long time, he was declared incapacitated for military service and was released from the Legion. He was a member of the Supreme National Committee in Tarnobrzeg.

He then moved to Lviv and started his studies at the local Technical University. He left Lviv in November 1918 after the outbreak of Polish-Ukrainian fights over the city. He moved about the crutches and evacuated his health. He died during the evacuation on December 6, 1918.

After death, he was given the Cross of Independence, and in 1938 his name was placed on a commemorative plaque at the Gimnazjum im. Hetman Tarnowski in Tarnobrzeg among students of the school who died in fighting for Poland's independence.
