In March 1428 he became commander of the castle of Homole near Kłodzko, then Niemcza, which under his influence became the center of the Hussite movement in Silesia - totam region sibi fecit tributariam. At that time he gained the nickname Pole and the reputation of one of the best Hussite commanders. In May 1433 Sobotka was taken prisoner by the Wroclaw army and was imprisoned until December 1434. After his release, he settled in Wielkopolska. In 1439 he was a signatory of the anti-clerical and pro-Swiss Confederation of Meltin. Probably did not fight in the battle of Grotniki. After the defeat of the confederates did not lose influence at the royal court, because in 1440 received the office of starosty Podolski. In December he stayed in Buda, surrounded by King Wladyslaw Warneńczyk. It was supposed to include the Russian Starost (Lviv), although in several documents from the Royal Chancellery, dated 5 and 9 July 1441 is called the starost of Ruthenian, on July 14 the office was received Spytek Tarnowski from Jarosław.
