North American Study of Polish Affairs


North American Studies of Polish Affairs - a joint American-Canadian emigration institution existing from 1976 to 1996. Its main task was to collect information about repression and human rights violations in Poland. History

The study was equally a political and scientific initiative. Its inauguration took place in Chicago on May 29-30, 1976. The chairman of the Council was Jerzy Lerski, the chairman of the Executive Committee and Andrzej Ehrenkreutz. The study as an organization declared access to the Congress of Polish and American Polonia. The activities of the North American Study of Polish Affairs have focused on several areas. On the one hand, a lecture campaign was conducted in American communities, mainly university and Polish-American on Polish subjects, on the other, a political monthly "News Studium Abstract" and "Studium Papers" were published. An important area of ​​the Studium's activity was also the care for reliable presentation of Polish affairs in the American and Canadian media and responding to all inaccuracies, in particular referring to the national democratic opposition. The main role in this area was played by Jan Nowak-Jeziorański. In 1987 Piotr Święcicki became the new chairman of the Executive Committee of the Study. In 1991 he resigned from the office in favor of Tomasz Arciszewski. The next chairman in 1993-1996 was Stanisław Bask-Mostwin. In 1996, the Study ceased its activity. Bibliography
