Kornel Ścibor-Rylski
Kornel Maria Maciej Scibor-Rylski of the coat of arms Ostoja, German Kornel Ritter Rylski von Groß-Scibor - (born September 21, 1835 in the village of Kniesioło - October 7, 1891 in Lviv) - engineer, general major of the Austro-Hungarian army. / p>
He came from a noble family, he was the son of a landowner, the owner of estates in Galicia. He began his military service in 1853 after graduating from the Engineering Academy in Vienna. He was admitted to the 2nd engineering regiment as a lieutenant. In the years 1855-1856 he was educated at the Higher Engineering Course, which he scored with a perfect grade. In the years 1856-1863 he was employed in the Engineering Staff. In 1859, during the campaign in Italy, he was promoted to the rank of captain. In 1864 he was transferred to the Engineering Academy in which he was a lecturer for the next 4 years. In 1868 he returned to the line service in the 1st engineering regiment and commanded engineering companies in Buda and Kotor. In 1870 he was employed in the Engineering Directorate in Krakow where he designed fortifications for the fortress, from 1873 he commanded an engineering battalion training one-year volunteers and non-commissioned volunteers. In 1876 he was promoted to the rank of major and returned to the Engineering Staff for the post of director of military construction in Brno. In the years 1878-1879 during the occupation of Bosnia and Herzegovina he was the head of the 3rd Armored Corps and then the head of engineering of the newly created General Command in Sarajevo, he managed the fortification works in Visegrad. In 1879 he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and, at his request, he was on leave from the army for a year. In 1881-1882 he commanded a battalion of the 2nd engineering regiment stationed in Krems. In 1883 he was promoted to the colonel and took up the position of chief of engineering in the 10th Corps in Brno. From here he moved to the analogous position to the 11th Corps to Lviv. Here he remained until the end of the service in the army. He retired on 17 July 1891 as a titular general-major shortly thereafter. He was married had two sons from whom Kazimierz followed in the footsteps of his father choosing a military career. Bibliography
