William Burges
William Burges (born December 2, 1827 in London, died on April 20, 1881 ibid) - English architect. Curriculum vitae
He traveled to France, Germany, Italy and Turkey, 1856 won an international competition for the design of the cathedral in Lille (not implemented). He was one of the leading architects of the mature phase of Victorian Neo-Gothic. His main works are the cathedral in the French Gothic style in Corcaigh, Ireland (1863-1876), reconstruction of Cardiff Castle (from 1865) and Castle Coch near Cardiff in Wales (1875-1881) for the Marquis of Bute, Tower House in London ( architect's own house 1875-1881) and the Trinity College project in Hartford in Connecticut in the USA (1873). In his works he combined the forms of English medieval architecture with the motifs of the French Gothic. Its buildings are characterized by the massiveness of the body and the richness of the sculptural detail. Bibliography
