LIBER (international organization)


LIBER (French Ligue de Biblioteques Européennes de Recherche) is an association of scientific libraries that brings together members from countries belonging to the Council of Europe. It has been operating under the auspices of the Council of Europe since 1971. From 2009 with headquarters in The Hague.

The name of the LIBER organization was supposed to refer to both the concept of book and freedom.

The main LIBER guiding objectives are:

The association's activities include on the infrastructure of scientific information, education of leaders and directors of libraries, copyright, open access to scientific publications, digital collections, research and education. It also organizes forums about library architecture and cultural heritage.

The association may include institutions, ie national and academic libraries, libraries with scientific collections, library organizations, companies and consortia working for libraries and individuals. Currently (as at the beginning of 2017) has over 400 members. Among them there are eight institutions from Poland: Bibliography
