John Patrick


John Patrick (born 1905, died 1995) - American playwright and screenwriter, winner of the Pulitzer Prize. He was born on May 17, 1905 in the city of Louisville, Kentucky. His full name was John Patrick Goggin (or O'Goggan). He studied at Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans. His first plays Hell Freezes Over (1935) and The Willow and I (1942) were not successful on Broadway. The art of Teahouse of the August Moon from 1953 brought him fame. He was awarded not only the most prestigious Pulitzer Prize in the field of drama, but also the New York Drama Critics Circle Award and Tony Award. Patrick also wrote screenplays for films. He died in a nursing home for older people in Delray Beach, Florida. He committed suicide with a plastic bag November 7, 1995.
