Jan from Poland (mid 13th century) - a burgher from Leuven, a Polish merchant trading between Brabant and Poland in the mid-13th century.

A mention of Jan is given in a document from 1253, issued by lay members from Leuven. It is known to him that Jan was the owner of the property at the port, where the largest commercial and trans-shipment traffic took place. Jan's house belonged to one of the richest inhabitants of the city. Jan became the burgher of Leuven, the capital of Brabant because of the transit restrictions of the city of Cologne (the prohibition of the merchants from passing through the city be appropriate protection). Obtaining the protection of Henryk III Dobroduszny Jan could lead the handicrafts by circumventing the restrictions issued by Kolonia. Bibliography
