He was a longtime activist of Christian Democracy. He sat in the Campaign authorities, including in the years 1983-1989 he was the president of this region. In 1989-1994 he held the mandate of a third-term Euro MP. In later years he was a member of the Popolari UDEUR group, from which he was expelled in 2008.
