Shadow of the sun

Shadow of the Sun - a teenage novel by Jan Piepka published in 1984. It was the author's last novel.

The plot of the novel takes place during the holiday season in an unspecified Kashubian village near Wejherowo. Ola-Kleja, Helka-Lenka, Slawek-Slawny, Anto-Bozek, Piotr-Kolumb, Karolek-Fufaja, Jurek-Gryps, Zbyszek-Faraon and children: Bartek-Oczywisty and Marcin In the company of a wolf, the hero of the Torus (disabled) who saved two children from the fire, came upon a mysterious letter dated July 16, 1944, hidden in a bottle and placed in the boughs of an old willow. The letter leads them to the World War II dugout, where they find the Green Notes - a diary written by a boy named Franek (Frank) during the war. The events described in the book eventually led his family to death in the Piaśnica Forests. A group of friends are helping to discover the secret of war: Tuberski-Parasolnik (Museum), Ms. Pisarka (Sabiniarska) from the newspaper and Stark, a local peasant with Kashubian language and remembering the Nazi terror and events in Piaśnica. The novel introduces readers not only to the recent history of Kashubia, but also to their nature (movable dunes near Czołpino) and legends (eg Stolmies). Although the events described in the novel are dated around 1980, the author argues that the memory of war crimes is still alive among Kashubian villagers, especially older people.

The shadow of the sun is a loose continuation of the Torbus novel and the rest of the series. Bibliography
