Mariano Baldassare Medici

Mariano Baldassare Medici (born 8 September 1772 - 1 October 1833) - Italian Dominican, inquisitor and bishop. He came from Bologna and joined the Dominican Order. On June 29, 1795, he was ordained a priest. In December 1824 he became the Inquisitor in Bologna. On December 17, 1832, he was appointed bishop of the diocese of Cervia. He received the bishop's episcopate in January 1833, but his episcopal status was only a few months old. He died at the age of 61.

French traveler and writer Antoine Claude Pasquin reported in his trip to Bologna that Medici was an inquisitive gentleman, a learned and universally respected Dominican. According to him, he considered the Inquisition to be a superfluous institution and tried to persuade Pope Pius VII at that time that there was no need to resume its activities. Bibliography
