Georg Majewicz

Georg (George) Majewicz (born 1897 in Polkowice, died 1965 in Munchenberg) - German painter.

He was born in Lower Silesia at the time of the Kingdom of Prussia, studying painting in Wroclaw at Paul Selle's studio. Since 1923 he studied painting and graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, and his tutors included Felix Ehrlich and Karl Haffner. He created landscapes, but he was also a famous animalist. In his paintings he often depicted animals in their natural habitat. deer, moose, wild boar and birds. In the 1930s he stayed in Pomerania, for some time he lived in Szczecin, where he had his own studio. He traveled extensively in the Carpathians, in the Beskidy Mountains, in the Alps and in East Prussia, and was also an avid hunter. After 1945 he lived in Berlin, and the animalistic theme dominated his work.

In Szczecin's numerous museums there are numerous paintings by Georg Majewicz, but he is a creator of little known and unrelated to this city. In some of the German papers, it is reported that he died in Berlin in 1973. Bibliography
