Bambo - Children's Poem Julian Tuwim was first published in 1935 in the "Literary News". Contents
The story tells the story of Bambo, a young black child who is diligently studying at an African school. When he comes back home, he "dogged and chews" for what his mother calls him a raven. When the mother offers him milk, he escapes and climbs on a tree. When his mother asks him to take a bath, he is afraid that they have run out. His mother loves him though. The poem ends with the statement: "It is a pity that Bambo, the black cheerful is not going to go with us to school." The line of Murat Bambo was once the Polish Marian Falski, and was also included in most of the beginner's textbooks. Most Polish children knew this song by heart.
