Society of French Poets (François la Société des poètes français) - an association founded in 1902 on the occasion of Victor Hugo's hundredth anniversary.

The founders were José-María de Heredia, Sully Prudhomme and Léon Dierx. The first president was Auguste Dorchain. It is the oldest French organization of poets. In 1986, the Society of Friends of Victor Hugo, Friends of Paul Verlaine and the Friends of Pierre Corneille Society joined in.

The main mission of the Society is to create and strengthen cultural and friendly links between French-speaking poets. The Society operates through 25 regional delegations and 7 delegates in Francophone areas, supporting the development of young talents and caring for the outstanding French poets of all nationalities.

Since 1998 the Society has its own publishing house. In his quarterly "Agora" publishes the most interesting works of contemporary French poets. Every year he also awards many poetry prizes (primarily the Victor Hugo Grand Prize, but also the Sully Prudhomme Prize, the Paul Verlaine Prize and the Jean Cocteau Prize).
