Armand Samuel de Marescot

Armand Samuel de Marescot (born March 1, 1758, Tours, died November 5, 1832 at Chaslay Castle near Montoire Loir-et-Cher) - French general and engineer. He took part in the wars led by France during the Great Bourgeois Revolution and during the reign of Emperor Napoleon I. Through Napoleon he was appointed inspector of engineering troops. As the first commander in the world he used the new optical telegraph to give the government information about the liberation of Austrian hands after the annual occupation of the city of Le Quesnoy, about two hundred kilometers north of Paris. The message reached the French authorities only an hour after the end of the battle, which was an unprecedented event in military history.
