Rumen Christow

Graduate of the Institute of Economics of. Charles Marx in Sofia, earned his doctorate in economics. He worked as an academic teacher in Plovdiv and Blagoevgrad, and then went on to run his own business in the consulting business.

In 1990 he joined the Union of Democratic Forces, initially as a member of the National Coordinating Council. In 1992 he became deputy minister of economic affairs in the government of Philip Dimitrov. In 1993, he became the first deputy minister of agriculture. From October 1994 to January 1995, he served as Minister of Agriculture and Food Economy in Renata Indzowa. In 1996 he joined the administration of President Żelewo Żelew as an advisor for agriculture and food industry. From February to May 1997 he again headed the agriculture department of the government of Stefan Sofijanski. Then until 2002 he was the secretary general of the administration of President Petyr Stoyanov.

He returned to active politics in 2011 as a presidential candidate. He lost in the first round, taking 6th place among 21 candidates with less than 2% votes. In 2014 the coalition of the Reformation Bloc was elected as a Member of the 43rd Assembly of the National Assembly.
