Rudolf Meidner


Rudolf Alfred Meidner (born June 23, 1914 in Wrocław, December 9, 2005 in Lidingö) - a Swedish economist, together with Gösta Rehn co-founder of the Rehn-Meidner model, the economic basis for the Swedish welfare state.

Son of Alfred Meidner and Elise Bandmann. As a Jew and socialist he was forced to flee from the Third Reich after the fire of the Reichstag in 1933. In 1937 he married Ella Jörgenssen and in 1943 became a citizen of Sweden. He was a student of Gunnar Myrdal. In 1954, he defended his doctorate on full employment policy in the Swedish labor market. He spent most of his life working for the Swedish Confederation of Trade Unions.
