The text was late Modrzewski's debut. He had the form of a hypothetical speech delivered in the Senate by Hieronim Lazarus. It was addressed to the then Prince Sigismund Augustus. It was formed on the occasion of examining in 1543 by the Sejm a proposal for the uniformity of the penalty for murder. The penalties were different depending on the state of the murderer and the victim. Modrzewski opted for the equalization of penalties and the rejection of fines, referring both to the Christian tradition (St. Paul) and to the Roman (Cicero).
The postulancy in part took into account the III Statute of Lithuania, introducing, with numerous reservations, the exaggeration of the nobility's responsibility for intentional murder. Bibliography
