José Joaquín Martínez Sieso
José Joaquín Martínez Sieso (born April 13, 1956 in Bilbao) - Spanish politician, lawyer and local government official, parliamentarian, president of Cantabria in 1995-2003. Curriculum vitae
A lawyer by education, a graduate of the Universidad de Deusto. He also completed MBA studies at the Instituto de Empresa. From the first half of the 1980s he worked in the regional administration, he was director of SODERCAN, an institution dealing with regional development. He was the representative of Cantabria in the Council of European Municipalities and Regions.
He became involved in political activities within the People's Party. In 1989 and 1993 he obtained the mandate of the deputy to the Congress of Deputies of the 4th and 5th term. In 1995 he became a member of the People's Party in Cantabria. In the same year elected to the regional parliament. After the formation of a government coalition with the regionalists of Miguel Ángel Revilli, he assumed the office of President of Cantabria. He held him for two terms until 2003, when the previous coalition partners decided to enter into an alliance with the socialists.
In 2004, again elected to the Congress of Deputies, he served as its vice-president during the 8th term (2004-2008). In 2008, he successfully applied for re-election, he sat in the lower chamber of the Spanish parliament until 2011. In the same year, he was appointed president of the Santander water port.
