Gerszom Szoken
Gerszom Szoken (Hebrew: גרשום שוקן, English: Gershom Schocken, born September 29, 1912 in Zwickau, died December 20, 1990) - Israeli journalist and politician, in the years 1939-1990 editor-in-chief of the Haaretz daily in 1955-1959 Member of the Knesset from the Progressive Party list. He was born on September 29, 1912 in Zwickau as Gustav Schocken. He studied at the University of Heidelberg. In 1933 he emigrated to Israel, he continued his studies at the London School of Economics
In 1937, his father Salman Schocken, a wealthy Zionist activist from Germany, bought the Haaretz newspaper. In 1939 Gerszom became its editor-in-chief and remained in office until his death for 51 years.
