Jan (born around 1278, died in 1311) - landgraf of Lower Hesse from 1308 Hessian dynasty. John was the son of the first landgrave of Hessian Henry I and his second wife Mechtylda Kliwijska. At the death of his father in 1308 he inherited Lower Hesse (Otto's older brother Otto, the division of Hessen due to the conflict between his brothers was approved even during his father's life). He was married to Adelaide, daughter of Prince Braunschweig of Albrecht II. The only child of this relationship was the daughter of Elizabeth, who married Otto of Ochsenstein.
