André Bloc


André Lucien Bloc (born May 23, 1896 in Algiers, died on November 8, 1966 in New Delhi) - French sculptor and architect. He graduated in technical studies in Paris, then he worked in editorial magazines. In 1930, he founded the magazine Architecture d'Aujourd'hui, during the Second World War he took up sculpture; initially (under the influence of Laurens) he created figural compositions, and after the war, as a result of contact with Brâncuşi, he gradually began to approach art that did not present and in 1949 he made his first abstract sculpture Signal. His sculptures were often formal experiments, he used a variety of materials in them - metal, cement, marble and plastics. In 1951 he founded the magazine "Art d'Aujourd'hui" and initiated the formation of the Espace group. He was an advocate of combining arts under the primacy of architecture. Bibliography
