Romancero cygańskie
Romancero Gypsy - a volume of poems by Federic García Lorca from 1928, the best known of this poet. He brought him fame in Spain and is considered a significant work of 20th-century Spanish literature.
It is one of the texts of Generation 27 that combines intellectual poetry with folk. It consists of 18 romances, poems about traditional forms and themes popular in the 15th century. Verses are eight-syllable, rhyming only, with asonans.
The reminder of this traditional form was to serve the glory of the Gypsy culture that influenced the culture of Andalusia. The poems describe the suffering of the people living on the margin of society, persecuted by the authorities.
The action areas are Grenada, Córdoba and Seville. Gypsy characters such as Antoinito el Camborio or the Gypsy Dandy, but also saints (St. Eulalia), Biblical (Tamar and Amnon) and personifications of elements (moon, wind) are being introduced.
Gypsy Romancero is also known for its sensuality and metaphor application. Numerous symbols scroll through the text. Moon and green often symbolize death. Spring water and horse represent passion and freedom. tracks Bibliography
