John F. Moffitt


John Francis Moffitt (born February 25, 1940 in San Francisco, died on June 1, 2008 in Las Cruces) - American art historian and artist, author of twenty books and several hundred scientific articles. He created oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, and in the last years of his life he was interested in digital photography. He taught art history in the US and abroad, and his works have been exhibited at more than twenty exhibitions in the USA. Curriculum vitae

He was born and raised in Hawaii. He served in the Army and the California Army National Guard. In 1962 he obtained the title of Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and drawing at the California College of Arts and Crafts, and a year later he obtained a master's degree in art history from the California State University in San Francisco. He then moved to Spain, where in 1966 he obtained a doctorate (Ph.D.) of art history at the University of Madrid. He often traveled to Spain, the last time in 2007 to present a lecture on the sculpture of Dama of Elche, the Spanish national icon, which was the subject of his fourth book on falsification in art.

In 1966, he accepted the position of assistant professor at the Department of Art and History of Art at East Carolina University in North Carolina. In 1968, he became a professor of art and art history at Sonoma State College, California. In 1969 he began his long-term cooperation with New Mexico State University as an art adjunct. Then he became an assistant professor and retired professor in 1996. He also translated numerous works, including "Architecture for the Screen: A Critical Study of Set in Hollywood's Golden Age" by Juan Antonio Ramírez (2004). Publications
