Egyptian Constitutions

Aegidianae regulations, 1571.

The Constitutions of Egypt (Latin Constitutiones Sanctae Matris Ecclesiae) - six books of law that make up the first historical constitution of the Church. They were edited in Fano on the initiative of Spanish Cardinal Gil Álvarez de Albornoz between 29 April and 1 May 1357 in the Vicariate of all Papal States.

By virtue of the legal provisions of the document, each province of the Church State was under the authority of the Rector appointed personally by the Pope. Each rector decided on the election of seven councilors to the board of his province. The purpose of the advisers was to counter corruption at the time of the Italian clergy. In the sphere of his duties, he also appointed the commander of the armed forces entrusted to him.
