Charles Tennyson Turner


Charles Tennyson Turner (1808-1879) - English poet, son of George Clayton Tennyson, older brother of Alfred Tennyson and younger brother of Frederick Tennyson. He was born on July 4, 1808 in the village of Enderby in Lincolnshire, where his father was the rector. He studied at Louth Grammar School, and then he and Alfred studied at Trinity College in Cambridge. He obtained his diploma in 1832. He chose a spiritual career. In 1835 he was appointed pastor in Grasby. In 1836, he married Louisa Sellwood, a younger sister-in-law, Emily Tennyson, wife of Alfred. As a poet, he made his debut with Alfred in the joint volume Poems by Two Brothers, published in 1827. He also published Sonnets and Fugitive Pieces, Sonnets (1864), Small Tableaux (1868), Sonnets, Lyrics, and Translations (1873) and Collected Sonnets, Old and New. He is the author of 340 sonnets. He died in Cheltenham on April 25, 1879. Bibliography
