Mesiodens

Mesiodens (medial tooth, Latin mesiodens) - extra tooth located in the middle line between the teeth of the jaw (rarely mandibular).

The shape of the middle tooth is often conical, creeps up palatially between the teeth and causes incision. This disorder is inherited as a dominant autosomal feature. The incidence ranges from 0.5 to 0.7% and is higher in men than in women. In about 20% of cases, two or three middle teeth are identified. Presence of mesiodensis can cause delays in incisal teeth incision, displacement, diastema or congestion.
