Derick Baegert

Crucifixion (about 1475) Derick Baegert (born 1440 in Wesel, died in 1515) is a German late Gothic painter.

He belonged to a group of painters from Lower Rhine, who were very influenced by the Dutch. He created under the influence of Roger van der Weyden and Dirk Bouts, but he painted compositions less spatial and filled with a lot of characters. There are 4 passersby altars, 2 altars of the Family of Mary, Altar of St. Luke and the individual altars of other altars. In the years 1493-94 he painted the scene of a court oath in Wesel. His son Jan and nephew Jan Joest van Kalkar were also painters. Selected works Bibliography
