Upper Gate in Bardejov

Upper Gate (Horná brána) - a non-existent city gate in the southern part of the walls of the Bardejov town in Slovakia.

The original gate, dating back to the 14th century, was probably around 40 years old. This gate was renovated by the master Maciej of Nuremberg in 1405-1407 at the triple point of the trident. The gatehouse, a rectangular plan and covered with a hip roof, rose in the center of today's Rhodyho street in a semi-circular wall outside its normal circulation. At the gate, followed by a wooden drawbridge, a circular barbican was dug (according to an information panel next to the Powder Tower - 2015) or in an arched, west-walled wall (according to Caspar Caspar, 1560) hence the second gate tower and another drawbridge on the so-called. Prešovská cesta (Prešovská cesta). The second drawbridge was replaced in 1770 by a five-span stone bridge, which now houses an amphitheater. At present (September 2015), archaeological and reconstructive works of the entire team are underway in the Upper Gate area. Literature
