Saint Arbogast
Saint Arbogast, also known as Arbogast from Strasbourg (died 678) - a saint worshiped in the Catholic Church and Orthodoxy. He served as the bishop in Strasbourg.
Little is known about his life. Some sources say that he came from Aquitaine, others say he came from Ireland or Scotland. In 550 he came as a missionary to Alsace and settled in the Hagenau forest, leading a hermit life. He attributed to him many miracles made thanks to his prayers.
The Frankish King Dagobert II appointed him bishop in Strasbourg. As a bishop, Arbogast built churches and monasteries (including the Strasbourg Cathedral of St. Mary). His rule caused the city to flourish. He was considered the main founder of Christianity in Alsace.
According to one of the legends, Arbogast brought back Siegebert, the son of Dagobert II, who died in an accident during the hunt.
He died in 678 in Strasbourg, of which he is the patron.
His feast in the Roman Catholic Church falls on July 21.
