Juan Fernández de Navarrete

Juan Fernández de Navarrete called el Mudo (dumb) (born in Logroño, 1526 - died March 28, 1579) is a Spanish Renaissance painter. He was the court painter of King Philip II, for whom he painted many works intended for the Basilica of the Escorial - the monastery-palace complex erected by the king.

In a child's absence, the child has deprived Navarrete of his hearing, and has limited his ability to speak and acquire knowledge. At a very young age, he began expressing his needs through carbon sketches. His first teacher was the monk Vicente de Santo, and later Becerra. It is known that he visited Naples, Rome, Florence and Milan. Pellegrino Tibaldi met him in Rome in 1550.
