Immanuel ben Solomon

Immanuel ben Solomon (born ca. 1265, circa 1330) is a Jewish poet, born in Rome. Dante's friend (the work of Ben Solomon shows his influence). Ben Solomon's early studies included mathematics, philosophy, and commentary on proverbs, psalms, bible books. Ben Solomon's fame was mainly due to his poems. They were particularly known for their collection called Mehabberoth (27 satirists on the life of the Jews). Religious and secular themes are intertwined, and in his work there is also a specific erotic subtext. The most popular part of Solon's artwork is an additional section of Mehabberoth, number 28 entitled "Paradise and Hell" (he-ha-Tophet veha-Eden). The poet is led by a person named Daniel (identified with Dante) through the kingdom of suffering and delight, Ben Solomon's paintings and comments are witty and very realistic.
