Mystery of the Black Lake
The mystery of the Black Lake - Czesław Czerniawski's youth novel from 1988, first published by the Pomerania Publishing House in Bydgoszcz with the cover of Tomasz Boguslawski's project.
The novel describes the fate of a dozen years old Maciek from Gdansk, who instead of staying in town during his holidays and adventures with his peers, was taken by his father to a forest settlement in an unspecified place in Poland. Father, a former soldier of the Polish People's Army, fighting with Germany during the Second World War, and now the reporter, encourages his son to be in close contact with nature, focusing himself on writing a book on Africa, from which he recently returned. During forest walks, Maciek learns the charms of the forest, learns to recognize birds and gradually accepts a lifestyle close to nature, which at first seemed boring and unattractive to him. He also meets Janusz, a neighbor of a nearby village. They are interested in the wreckage of a small motorboat drowned during the war in a nearby lake, and previously belonging to the German band, which has a hunting lodge over the water (the foundations remain). At the same time, as a scout alert, they are looking for a local hero to write an article about. They will get acquainted with the inhabitants of the area, eg old poacher Antoni Łapaj or the GS kiosk, whose husband, from Słupca, during the war helped the Polish soldiers to push the river near the village.
