Augusta Joyce Crocheron

Augusta Joyce Crocheron (born 1844, died 1915) - American poet, one of the most important Mormon authors. She was the daughter of John and Caroline Joyce, new faithful to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1846, the author's parents sold all their belongings and on the Brooklyn ship, a roundabout route around Cape Horn to California, which was to be their promised land for them. However, after a six-month journey to Yerba Buena, or present San Francisco, they found themselves in the vast misery caused by the war with Mexico. Poet's father began to abuse alcohol, which destroyed his marriage and himself. The author's mother remarried. In 1867, the family settled in Utah, and three years later Augusta married George W. Crocheron (becoming one of his wives). In 1880, she published a volume of poems Wild Flowers of Deseret, and in 1884 a collection of essays Representative Women of Deseret. Bibliography
