Social Democratic Party
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) is a Serbian political-social party operating in the years 2002-2010.
The SDP was created in April 2002 as a result of the merger of two groups belonging to the Democratic Opposition of Serbia - Social Democracy (SD) and the Social Democratic Union (SDU). The chairmen were Slobodan Orlé with SD and Žarko Korá with SDU. Proponents of the former leader of the Social Democrat Vuka Obradovic have decided to continue the separate activities of their party, and the leader of the SDU, in 2003, has resumed his party.
In the 2003 election, the SDP was in the coalition with the G17 Plus, receiving 3 MPs. In 2004 the Democratic Alternative joined the Social Democrats and its chairman, Nebojš Čović, became a new leader. In 2007, SDP ran in a coalition with the Serbian United Pensions Party, which with 3.1% of votes did not exceed the electoral threshold. The group's activity has disappeared and was finally resolved in April 2010.
