Madonna with the Child (picture El Greca of 1614)
Madonna and Child - an oil painting by a Spanish painter of Greek Dominikos Theotokopulos, known as El Greco. Madonna breastfeeding 1595, 127 x 106 cm Hospital of Tavera, Toledo
The theme of the Madonna's feeding on El Greco was threefold in his work. For the first time in 1585 and 1595, painting the Madonna with the Child in the company of Joseph and St. Anne. In the years 1608 - 1614 she painted a lonely Maria feeding on the rough sky, so characteristic of El Greco. Madonna has a very tormented expression, rare for the iconography of the Marian artist. It is presented in perspective and slightly distorted. Her head as well as the whole character covers the modeled coat. The body is reminiscent of Maria from the Tolkien version; The fingers of the left hand are like the fingers of the right hand, and the gesture of her right hand supporting the foot of the little Jesus is the same as that of Joseph holding the foot of the Son.
