Hřebečsko on the map from 1880 year
Hřebečsko (Svitavsko, svitavský jazykový ostrov, germany Schönhengstgau, Schönhengster land) is a German language island located on the border between northern Bohemia and Moravia. The main cities were Moravská Třebová (Mährisch Trübau) and Svitavy (Zwittau).
The German population began to settle in the region in the 13th century in the areas devastated during the Tatar invasion. They came mainly from Rhineland, Upper Franconia and Upper Palatinate. It was the largest island in the Czech lands.
In the twentieth century, the linguistic island was formed by six cities: Svitavy (Zwittau), Březová nad Svitavou (Brüsau), Moravská Třebová (Mährisch Trübau), Lanškroun (Landskron), Zábřeh (Hohenstadt / March) and Mohelnice (Müglitz) In 1939 there lived 126,000 people. 84% of them were Germans, and the Czechs were the largest ethnic group in only 13 municipalities. In 1910 the percentage of Germans was higher and amounted to 93%. Sometimes the region is called the so-called. Konicko - a small area south-west of Konice (Konitz), the largest of which was Brodek u Konice (Deutsch Brodek).
After 1945, the Germans were deported, Czechs from other parts of the country came to their place, but the population never reached pre-war levels. Symbol
The unofficial coat of arms of the region was the silhouette of a black horse, standing on its hind legs, turned into heraldic law. At the bottom of the shield was a brick wall.
Hymn regionu:
Between March and Adler spreads a richly blessed land, which traverses the wanderer's path, as a sweet spell banishes. Blessing rests in every valley, Peacefully greenens on mountain and on the meadow. Greetings many thousand times, Trauter German Schönhengstgau! Our peculiar mother tongue, our ancestors of the very kind, are kept under every roof like a delicious good. Manly courage and women's dignity Carries the people there proudly. Keep the Erdengarten Zierde, Trauter German Schönhengstgau! And the girls, like the boys of our future, comfort and reverence, are to dig deep into the hearts of their fathers. Word of Solace: Shines happiness in a golden glow, Come days dull and gray, Faithfully bound, yours forever, Trauten deutscher Schoenhengstgauwiki
