Lope de Rueda

Lope de Rueda (born around 1510 in Seville, died in 1565 in Cordoba) - Spanish playwright and actor.

He was the first author of dramas for the Spanish secular theater. He created so-called passos (intermedia) - short scenes of manners in prose, to which he introduced the figure of a servant (gracioso), characteristic of later Spanish theater. In addition, he wrote comedies modeled on the works of ancient and Italian writers. His works were appreciated and admired by Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega. His dramatic legacy was published in 1567 by Juan de Timoneda. Bibliography
