Red shields


Red Shields - a historical novel by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz published in 1934. <<> The novel is based on the biography of Prince Henry Sandomierski, who lived in the twelfth century. Describes treatments to overcome the breakdown of the district and revive the Kingdom of Poland. The red shields have many elements of a psychological novel, showing the motives and emotions that drive the main character, the dilemmas associated with the ruler's duty and the duties of the state. Historical facts are mainly treated as a background to considerations of the history of Poland and its place in Europe, and internal conflicts of individuals.

The language of the novel is not archaic and resembles the language used in the time of Iwaszkiewicz. The novel had many reissues and translations. Bibliography
