Johnny Weltz


Johnny Weltz (born March 20, 1962 in Copenhagen) is a Danish cyclist, silver medalist in the amateur category. Career

Johnny Weltz's biggest success came in 1985, when he won a silver medal in the race to join the amateurs at the world championship in Giavera del Montello. Lech Piasecki was only ahead of the competition and Belgian Frank Van De Vijver was third. In addition, in 1987 he won the French Grand Prix de Plumelec-Morbihan and the Grand Prix d'Ouverture La Marseillaise, the Spanish Clásica de Almería in 1992, and in 1993 the Spanish Grand Prix Miguel Indurain. He made his debut in the Tour de France four times, scoring his best in 1988 when he finished 54th and won one of the stages. In the same year he also won one stage at the Vuelta a España, and in 1990 he finished 28th in the overall classification of this race. In 1992 he also started at the Giro d'Italia, but withdrew before the end of the competition. In 1989 he won the gold medal of the Danish championship in the race of joint start.
