David Landberg

Dawid Landberg (also: David Lan-Bar) (born 1912 in Rawa Ruska, died in 1987 in Paris) is a Polish painter of Jewish origin in France.

David Landberg's art education is unknown, and in 1934 he left his home town by fleeing the pogrom and went to the Mandate of Palestine, residing there in Jerusalem. He studied with Miron Sima at the Hebrew University, but moved briefly to Tel Aviv and studied with Aharon Avni. There, he became friends with Awigdor Stemacki and Jezebel Streichman. In 1948 he went to Paris, where he planned to broaden his knowledge of painting by studying at the École des Beaux-Arts and acquaint himself with the techniques of other brush masters. He remained there until his death in 1987. David Landberg's early work was characterized by sharp contours and restrained use of color palettes. After leaving for France, the objects in his paintings had blurry contours, but the artist used a rich color range. David Landberg's paintings have been exhibited in Paris, Tel Aviv, Haifa, New York, Chicago, Detroit and Turin, as well as in the Sao Paulo biennale. In Paris, he frequently exhibited at Galerie Breteau, in the Gallery of Katie Granoff, Maurice Kreigel and Lélii Mordoch. Bibliography
